Spotlight on Christopher Kennedy
Since founding his firm in 2005, Christopher Kennedy has emerged as one of the nation’s freshest voices in home furnishings and interior design.
His name and products are quickly becoming synonymous with modern luxury and vibrant California glamour. His work has captured the attention of numerous national publications including Architectural Digest, Dwell Magazine, Luxe Magazine, California Homes, Elle Décor, and The Los Angeles Times.
Christopher founded his firm based upon the principle that our lives should be fully lived and our built environment should inspire. Born in San Francisco and raised on California’s Central Coast, the synthesis of big-city style and relaxed resort living is a hallmark of his interior designs.
Whether he is working on a traditional private residence in Newport Coast, a commercial project in Las Vegas, a beach house in Laguna, or a turn-key weekend getaway in Palm Springs, his goal is to create a space that instantly feels like home, while delivering lots of small, yet delightful surprises over time. He views each project as a special collaboration between he and his clients… striving to ensure that both the process and the end result exceed his clients’ expectations. “I ask my clients for three words that describe how they want their space to feel, and from that, I form a vision of what their home should look like,” he says. “Together, we refine that vision into a space that feels like home.”
With a fresh and discerning eye, Christopher combines vintage and contemporary sensibilities to create spaces that are layered, livable, and inviting. Neither trapped by tradition nor tied to trends, a Christopher Kennedy interior reflects a fine balance of design ideology, effortless function, and personal taste. Christopher earned his Bachelor of Architecture and MBA degrees from Drury University.
Three years ago, Christopher launched his own furniture line: The Christopher Kennedy Signature Collection. “My collection features strong geometric shapes, inspired by my background in architecture, and some nostalgic forms, inspired by the casual elegance of Palm Springs. My pieces combine timeless shapes with exquisite materials, proving that modern furnishings can be livable, comfortable, and elegant.”
The recently launched Christopher Kennedy Outdoor is a unique line of upholstered outdoor furniture – beautiful enough for the living room yet durable enough for the patio. “I’m taking shapes people think should be inside and bringing them outside,” he says.
And his latest project, the Christopher Kennedy flagship boutique located in Palm Springs on the popular Palm Canyon Drive, features his Signature Collection, which is carried at to-the-trade design showrooms around the country, alongside hand-picked vintage finds and other contemporary furnishings. The boutique also carries Christopher’s lighting for Lamps Plus, his popular Palm Springs Neighborhood candle line, and his brand new collection of pet fashions. Christopher designed the boutique’s interior, which features his signature livable contemporary style.
“I don’t get overwhelmed by the projects. I always assume it’s going to be fun, transformational and manageable.” Christopher explains that, for him, when it comes to design, the why is as important as the eye. “The why behind design is vital: Why do I do what I do?” he asks. “I like impacting people on a personal level. Creating spaces and products that change lives inspires me,” he explains. “I’m always excited for what’s next.”
